I found jed.com and read the "why" page about your name. 

My given name is actually Jed (no more, no less)  When my parents were choosing a name for 
me, they wanted to name me after my paternal grandfather, John and then give me the middle name of my father, Edward. Well, since I already had a grandfather named John and also an uncle with the same name (my dad's older brother), they decided to concatenate the name Jed from John Edward.

Sound familiar?
