Jed Lamplough |
I'm Jed Michael Lamplough, born November 8, 1974
in Honolulu,
Hawaii. My parents were young lovers from Long Island, New York,
stationed
by the U.S. Air Force. I grew up in Centereach, New York. Fate gave me
a
talent for drawing. A first born son and daydreamer, I ripened to be an
introspective
and sensitive artist and lover of life.
Had my father always gotten his way, I'd be named
Zeus
Hercules, but me being "beloved of God" appealed to him as fitting the
same
intention, and so for him as for me, my mother was a fountain of sound
advice.
Okay, so who isn't beloved of God? No one. Mere
existence
is that love. However, Jed is a blessed name, as other Jeds at
this
site testify. The name colors our encounters with a double-take and a
smile
whenever it's learned. Because a name is a replacement for an idea,
true
being disappears behind the name, and the character of the name itself
is
reflected in the being. So what is the character of Jed? It's unusual,
sentimental and welcome. If being your name were a task, I could drink
a Guinness now
with a sense of satisfaction.
Throughout my life and in this order, people have
mutated
Jed thusly:
Jeddy-Mike, Jeddy-boy, Jedster, Jedi, Jed-meal,
Jed-boy,
Jedling, Jedfry, Jedry, Jedrick, Jedediah, Jedly, Mr. Jed, Jed Shred,
Jeddy,
Jeddington, Jedelicious, Jeddy-baby, Jedlock, The Jed.
This Jed loves Joseph Campbell, Hayao Miyazaki,
Flannery
O'Connor, Paul Taylor, Rufus Wainwright, Jean Cocteau, Michelangelo
Merisi
da Caravaggio and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
